A ship carrying African migrants to Europe has caught fire and capsized off the southern Italian island of Lampedusa, killing at least 114 people, including two pregnant women, with 150 still missing.

The bodies of 12 suspected illegal immigrants were found washed up on the shore of southern Sicily early today and at least 100 other migrants were rescued from their boat nearby, state radio reported.
