Israel started releasing more than 250 Palestinian prisoners today, in an attempt to bolster moderate Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in his power struggle with Hamas.

Israel has reopened a desert detention camp to hold some of the thousands of Palestinians it has rounded up during its 19-day sweep through the West Bank.
