Though Mozambique is one of the world's fastest growing economies, most of it's population still live in poverty. This week's elections show that pressure is rising on its government to make sure that the country's newfound prosperity benefits those who need it most, writes Ruairi Casey.

Storms and torrential rains in the past 10 days in southern and central Mozambique have killed nine people and made about 7,000 homeless, the National Disasters Management Institute said today.

At least nine people have been killed and more than 25,000 people displaced by floods in central Mozambique and the situation is expected to worsen if rains continue.
