Chinese workers today rescued the first of 69 coal miners who had been trapped in a flooded shaft for more than three days, state media said.

Rescuers poured milk down a coal mine’s ventilation pipes in a bid to save 69 workers trapped underground for more than 50 hours in central China, state media said today.
