The behaviour of a youth directly after the rape and murder of a 22-year-old Cork woman was not in keeping with guilt, a defence lawyer has told a jury.

A prosecution lawyer has accused the parents of an 18-year-old Corkman accused of rape and murder of lying in the witness box to protect their son.

A second jury in the Central Criminal Court were given time out for the match today just as a youth accused of murder and rape was about to give evidence.

Shortly after an ambulance arrived at the scene where a 22-year-old woman was found lying in dense undergrowth in a park in Co Cork an 18-year-old local man told three of his neighbours the woman had been "beaten and raped".
