ALMOST 40 years after he was convicted of the unlawful killing of a 19-year-old civil servant, Martin Conmey finally had his name cleared of the crime yesterday.

“Every effort” will be made by the Court of Criminal Appeal to “fix a date” this month for final arguments to be made in the case of a Meath man who is attempting to quash his 40-year-old conviction for the manslaughter of Una Lynskey.

A then 20-year-old man being questioned over the death of Una Lynskey in 1971 was shown a photograph of another suspect “lying in a ditch, dead” by gardaí investigating her killing, a court has heard today.

A Meath man attempting to clear his name over of the killing of Una Lynskey almost 40 years ago claims he “made up stories” about events on the evening the young woman disappeared “out of fear” and “under duress”.

A bid by a Meath man to quash his conviction for killing a teenager in the Wicklow Mountains almost 40 years ago, opens at the Court of Criminal Appeal next week.
