Poor weather conditions have caused major traffic problems around the country in the past 24 hours as a two-car collision in Co Mayo claimed the first road fatalities of 2014.

PEOPLE involved in a car crash at 80km/h are 20 times more likely to die than those in an accident at 32km/h, road safety experts heard yesterday.
