IN response to Declan Cullen (Letters, September 17), I honestly think he is mistaken about smart cards and the social welfare free travel scheme.

PATRICK Martin’s excellent letter (August 17) proves how things have changed since that sunny Sunday morning 50 years ago when I heard a former member of the Defence Forces being referred to as an “Irish Black and Tan”.

IN 1963, John F Kennedy, addressing the joint Houses of the Oireachtas, quoted the Fenian John Boyle O’Reilly: “The world is large when two loving hearts are separated, but the world is small when your enemy is loose on the far side.”
