Pop star Madonna, whose plans to adopt Malawian toddler David Banda last autumn sparked an international controversy, was expected to fly back to the African country today.

MADONNA arrived in Malawi yesterday on a mission to help AIDS orphans in the poor southern African nation and — according to government officials — to adopt a child herself.
