Two men burgled a pet shop and then left the doors open, exposing birds to the cold, which resulted in more than €600 worth of birds dying, a court has heard.

A Louth father who posted pictures and details of his estranged daughters on the internet has been jailed for two years by Judge Patrick McCarten who had barred him previously from contacting them.

Gardaí say they are investigating an incident in which a shot was fired at a house in Dundalk early today.

The three-year-old Dundalk girl, who had been allegedly abducted by her estranged father, has been found safe and well.
