Councillors have pleaded with Transport Initiative Ireland (TII) not to completely close a main road in North Cork for realignment and resurfacing as it could kill off businesses in two villages.

Councillors will get a chance midweek to press Transport Minister Paschal Donohoe about the importance of building a bypass to relieve congestion in a grid-locked Cork town.

Cork County Council has carried out emergency repairs to part of a noted death-trap road, after three cars overturned in the space of 24 hours.
