A delighted James Sugrue was one of five leading Irish amateur golfers celebrating call-ups to an extended Great Britain & Ireland squad ahead of the 47th Walker Cup match against the United States at Royal Liverpool this September.

Not making the GB & Ireland Walker Cup team that faced the United States at the weekend was disappointing but it was nothing I wasn’t expecting.

Warrenpoint’s Colm Campbell fired a second successive 68 to lead the Flogas Irish Amateur Open by two shots at halfway and immediately took his hat off to course record setter Marco Penge.
