The National Safety Council tonight called for high visibility gardai, speed cameras at accident black spots and more checkpoints after a series of accidents from midnight on Friday left seven people dead.

FOUR men were killed in road accidents yesterday, bringing to 24 the number killed in the first four weeks of this year.

Two men ages 34 and 36 have died following a single car accident near Charlestown in Co Mayo.
