Flash floods triggered by a tropical storm killed eight people in Vietnam, while 14 others remain missing and another was killed by a falling tree.

A 27-year-old man whose family kept chickens in Vietnam died today, becoming Asia’s 19th bird flu fatality, while Malaysian authorities quarantined a pet-store owner on fears he may also have caught the virus striking the region’s poultry.

The human toll in Asia’s bird flu crisis rose today to 18 with two more deaths in Vietnam, and a UN official said pigs tested positive for the virus that has infected tens of millions of poultry across the region.
