Floods caused by heavy monsoon rains over the weekend claimed two lives and washed away hundreds of flimsy huts, leaving nearly 2,000 people homeless in northern Bangladesh.

A 45-year-old Bangladeshi man emerged from his grave after nearly six hours underground, a local news agency reported today.

At least five people have been killed in tropical storms which battered parts of northern Bangladesh, flattening thousands of houses.
