A GAA club is holding an urgent meeting with council officials and gardaí this week after further damage to its two pitches by joyriders over Christmas had put its “survival at stake”.

South Dublin County Council has said a €1m budget for park security will be used to restrict access to a particular park in Tallaght plagued by joyriding and anti-social behaviour.

Two children, aged 3 and 4 when they suffered needlestick injuries while playing in a rubbish-strewn park, have each lost €38,000 damages claims against a local authority.
