As for the busiest roads in Cork, the report stated: "Several sections of the N40 Cork Southern Ring Road carry in excess of 80,000 vehicles on an average day."

The volume of traffic on national roads rose by 6% last year, with the M50 the country’s busiest road and the South Ring Road the most heavily used in Cork.

There are heavy delays this evening on the M50 northbound from before J13 Sandyford through to J9 Red Cow, following an earlier multi-vehicle collision at J9.
