The word ‘village’ gets bandied about when it comes to Cork city’s super-sized suburb Douglas, and it’s even pinned to the towering Douglas Village Shopping Centre and multi-storey car-park — but it’s in places like Grosvenor Mews that the village feel at least rings some bit true.

Cork County Council has announced that it will introduce pay parking in several areas of Douglas from May 1.

I HOPE that Cork Corporation will reconsider the drastic decision to close down and sell off the last two municipal swimming pools in the city, at Churchfield and Douglas.
