The 24-hour picket mounted by opponents of the controversial new bridge in Kilkenny is likely to end today although there is now speculation a legal challenge will be taken against the project.

Taxpayers are being hit with a bill of more than €100,000 as extra gardaí have been drafted in to police a six-week long protest over the building of a new bridge in Kilkenny city.

Two protesters picketing against the construction of a new bridge in the centre of Kilkenny were arrested yesterday by gardaí under the Public Order Act.
