THE Celtic Tiger helped destroy the character of many old villages, but efforts are underway to preserve what’s left and again make villages attractive places in which to live.

LIMERICK County Council have brought in experts to try and pinpoint the root cause of floods that swamped Newcastle West and Athea on August 1 when the Arra and Galey rivers burst their banks.

AN ear tag found on the carcass of a cow washed up on Ballybunion beach showed it had been swept more than 96km downriver by the recent floods from a farm in west Limerick.
