Today’s water charge protests have been dismissed by Minister for Finance Michael Noonan as just the opposition "having their last rally around the water issue".

Compulsory redundancies for public service workers were ruled out by Taoiseach Enda Kenny yesterday who said such measures were not part of the current Croke Park deal.
