High Island lies about 2km off Squince Harbour which is about halfway between the lengthy inlets of Glandore Harbour and Castlehaven Harbour in West Cork.

Hopes were fading tonight for the safe return of five men missing after a trawler sank off the west Cork coast.

The Naval Service has deployed its vessel LE Niamh to the Glandore area to help in the search for five men missing from a trawler that ran aground of the Cork coast.
