An Afghan man wearing the uniform of the country’s security forces turned his weapon on Nato troops in eastern Afghanistan, killing a member of the international coalition.

TWO NATO service members were killed by bombings in southern Afghanistan yesterday while an insurgent attack killed another in the east, raising the coalition’s death toll to 10 in the first four days of October.

A battle in southern Afghanistan between US-led coalition forces and Taliban militants left more than a dozen insurgents dead, the coalition said.

British-led coalition forces deployed 1,000 troops today to battle a ‘‘substantial force’’ of enemy fighters in a new combat operation in mountainous eastern Afghanistan, the top British commander in the coalition said.
