The man serving a life sentence for murdering teenager Melanie McCarthy McNamara has brought a High Court challenge against the 23-hour per day lock up regime he is subjected to at Wheatfield Prison.

Justice Minister Dermot Ahern today opened a new wing at Dublin’s Wheatfield Prison catering for up to 200 prisoners.

PRISON bosses yesterday said they would review security for a prisoner after he reportedly claimed he was the killer of English child Jamie Bulger.
