The owners of a large childcare facility near Killarney’s town centre have clashed with local residents over their plans for an expansion of the facility.

Emergency services at the scene of a fatal gas explosion in Killarney, Co Kerry, at the weekend did not immediately carry out a search of the scene because of safety concerns for their personnel.

A relative of a 59-year-old businessman, killed in a suspected gas explosion, has called for sensors to be made available to emergency services to check if a trapped person is alive inside a building.
