Floods pushed further into Bangkok today as residents of long-submerged provinces north of the capital started to rebuild their lives.

Advancing pools of filthy water threatened the Thai capital’s underground system today and surrounded the emergency headquarters set up to deal with flooding that has claimed more than 500 lives nationwide.

THE death toll from Thailand’s worst floods in half a century climbed past 500 yesterday, as advancing pools of polluted black water threatened Bangkok’s subway system and new evacuations were ordered in the sprawling capital.

The governor of Bangkok issued a dramatic warning to residents of the Thai capital to prepare for floodwaters to roll deeper into the city from suburban areas already choking under the deluge.
