A man who made a hoax 999 call to say there had been a shooting at a pub in order to divert Gardaí who were trying to remove him from his ex-partner's home has been jailed for 15 months.

The Court of Criminal Appeal has dismissed an appeal by a Dublin man against the severity of the five year prison sentence he received as a result of being found in a car by the gardaí with a sawn-off shotgun and ammunition.

THERE was tight security yesterday as seven men were charged with conspiracy to rob almost €1 million from a cash-in-transit van last Friday.
