A man jailed for 10 years for his role in an armed burglary where a family was held hostage and robbed has brought High Court proceedings aimed at securing his early release from prison.

A 32-year-old homemaker who was injured by a “vicious” dog three years ago, has settled a €38,000 damages claim in the Circuit Civil Court on undisclosed terms.

Five men were arrested today in connection with an ongoing conflict between two Traveller families in the midlands, gardaí said.
