A man who viciously assaulted a garda, punching her in the face and spitting in her mouth, has been jailed for 11 months.

A two-year jail term was imposed yesterday on a man who carried out a sexual assault on a six-year-old girl who later told gardaí there was a brown mole on the assailant’s penis.

A young man wanted by gardaí regarding an alleged domestic violence case said yesterday that he gave up drink on Christmas Day and feels it is time for him to put his life in order.
