A man with a kitchen knife has killed a one-year-old boy and injured two other children in the southern Chinese city of Zhongshan near Hong Kong, police said.

China suspended three officials and apologised to a woman who was forced to undergo an abortion seven months into her pregnancy in a case that sparked a public uproar after graphic photos of the mother and her dead baby were circulated online.

Heavy rains this week in northern China have triggered flooding that has killed 17 people and left another 33 missing, the official Xinhua News Agency said today.
