The badly beaten, bullet-riddled bodies of seven Afghan soldiers have been found dumped in an eastern province, according to an official.

Afghan officials have arrested seven suspects in connection with an apparent assassination attempt against President Hamid Karzai, a government spokesman said today.

Suspected Taliban militants attacked a district office in central Afghanistan in a clash that left 15 militants and two officers dead, the ministry of interior said in a statement today.
