A lorry driver has died and more than 130,000 homes have been left without power as gale force winds battered Scotland.

The big freeze gripping the country will get worse this week with snow spreading inland and some temperatures plunging as low as minus 20C, forecasters warned.

EUROPE was blasted by more snow yesterday as Britain endured its coldest night of the winter and fears for energy supplies intensified.

THE policeman who ran away with a 15-year-old girl to Scotland was yesterday arrested on suspicion of the abduction, West Mercia Police said.
