A MEMBER of the doomsday cult behind a deadly Tokyo subway gas attack in addition to other crimes turned himself in to police yesterday after 17 years on the run.

Japanese officials today said they have extended an order to keep close surveillance on the doomsday sect that released nerve gas in Tokyo’s subway system a decade ago, killing 12 people.

A former doomsday cult member has been sentenced to death by the Tokyo High Court today for a 1995 nerve gas attack on Tokyo’s subways, overturning a lower court ruling condemning him to life in prison.
