Syrian warplanes carried out air strikes near the Lebanese border today, wounding at least 10 Syrians who were rushed to hospital in a nearby Lebanese town.

Syrian government forces have killed more than 60 rebels in an ambush near Damascus, a blow to opposition fighters confronting a regime offensive in the capital.

The chief of Syrian rebel forces says his fighters are in “desperate” need of weapons and ammunition rather than the food supplies and bandages that the US now plans to provide.

An oil pipeline has been attacked and left on fire in the central Syrian city of Homs, and regime troops have stormed several residential neighbourhoods in the nearby city of Hama, activists said.
