Nepalese soldiers have killed 76 Maoist rebels during a weekend offensive against a guerrilla movement which has been fighting the country’s government since 1996.

Maoist rebels killed at least 102 people, including policemen and troops, when they attacked a district headquarters and a nearby airport in northwestern Nepal, officials said today.
