POLICE responding to the deadly Virginia Tech shootings may have been using tactics learned after the Columbine killings in Colorado in 1999.

A man who shot and killed his estranged girlfriend at the University of Washington in Seattle used at least three aliases and two passports, according to media reports in the US.

A man and a woman were shot dead at the University of Washington today in what may have been a murder-suicide, university police said.
