James Fox’s character, Joseph, in the film A Long Way from Home has been married to his wife Brenda, played by Oscar-winning Irish actress Brenda Fricker, for half a century.

BRENDA Fricker first heard she’d been shortlisted for an Oscar in 1989 for her role as Mrs Brown in My Left Foot when a friend phoned over a crackling line from the United States.

“We were always bleeding,” Brenda Fricker has revealed, speaking about her childhood of abuse.
