THE ashes of the US writer Hunter S Thompson are to be fired from a tower the height of the Statue of Liberty in a ceremony at his Colorado home today befitting his eccentric and controversial life.

Hunter S Thompson's ashes wil be fired across his Colorado estate by a cannon, in keeping with his final wishes.
