Employers in the US added fewer jobs than forecast in March, underscoring Federal Reserve chairman Ben Bernanke’s concern that recent rises may not be sustained without a pick-up in growth.

US government bond prices continued lower in afternoon trade after the Philadelphia Fed business activity index rose sharply, breaking into positive territory for the first time in more than a year, dealers said.
