Survivors of the US’s atomic bombing of Nagasaki, during World War 2, gathered to mark its 70th anniversary yesterday.

Japanese officials pledged today to seek a society less reliant on nuclear energy as the country marked the 67th anniversary of the atomic bombing of Nagasaki.

The mayor of Nagasaki today called for a global ban on nuclear arms at a ceremony marking the 64th anniversary of the devastating US attack on the Japanese city that killed about 80,000 people.

Nagasaki marked the 62nd anniversary of the world’s second atomic bomb attack with a sombre ceremony today and calls for the elimination of nuclear weapons.
