An Algerian man who attacked two Belgian policewomen with a machete was known to authorities for petty crimes, but had not been linked to any terror offences.

The most wanted fugitive from November’s Paris attacks was arrested after a shootout with police in Brussels yesterday, said Belgium’s prime minister.
