A smart revamp of Tralee town centre, nearing completion, has left the town’s taxi operators feeling pushed aside by a pedestrian-focused project.

It's a win-win option for everyone, writes Helen O'Callaghan, when those convicted of a crime can avoid jail by doing worthwhile work for the community, such as clearing grafitti, painting walls or restoring playgrounds.

TAXI drivers in Tralee have called for extra gardaí to be put on duty in the town at night to curb public disorder.
