The number of arrests for driving under the influence between January and April 2017 has risen by 18% compared to the same period last year, according to gardaí.

More than 66,000 motorists had their speed checked by gardaí in under 10 hours as Operation Slowdown delivered on its promise of an intensive nationwide scrutiny of driving habits.
