An 84-year-old Malaysian state sultan has been sworn in as the country’s new king.

Malaysia’s 13th king formally ascended to the throne today, pledging to reign wisely and safeguard the sanctity of Islam in a ceremony marked by traditional Malay rites and imperial pageantry.
