Indonesia’s most volatile volcano began erupting again today, sending plumes of hot ash and rocks high into the air.

Indonesian officials today evacuated 11,000 villagers from around Mount Merapi volcano, as lava and superheated clouds of gas poured repeatedly down its upper slopes.

A trickle of aid began reaching survivors of the Indonesian earthquake that killed more than 5,400 over the weekend, but desperate villagers said today the meagre deliveries were not enough.
