South Africa’s Tim Clark claimed the 2008 Australian Open by defeating Mathew Goggin on the first hole of a dramatic sudden-death playoff at Royal Sydney GC today.

Chris Downes remained the front-runner at the Australian Open but there was little sparkle to his game at the Moonah Links course today as eight players closed to within two shots of the leader.
