PATRICK HYLAND will have an opportunity to reinforce his rating with the EBU and, ultimately, his claims for an early shot at a European title when he takes on Suate Laze at the Hunky Dory’s Fight Night in Breaffy House Resort in Castlebar on Saturday night.

Three of Ireland’s finest young boxers emerged with gold in the early hours of this morning in Cork, with Baldoyle’s Conor Ahern, Andrew Murray of Cavan and Neilstown’s Kenneth Egan winning their final bouts of the week.

YOUNG Conor Ahern got Ireland off to a flying start at the Multi-Nations Boxing Tournament in Cork last night when he out-pointed Sofiane Takoucht of France by just one point, 29-28, to win the light flyweight title and reverse a decisive decision which went to Takoucht at the inaugural EU championships in Toulon last month.

THERE were four Irish victories at the multi-nations boxing tournament at the Rochestown Park Hotel in Cork last night, as James Moore, Conor Ahern, Andrew Murray and Marvin Lee claimed their places in tomorrow night’s finals.
