Lufthansa has given a gloomy outlook for the key summer season and said it would focus on reducing costs after attacks in Europe deterred passengers from booking trips, creating price pressure for the German airline and its European rivals.

Lufthansa said passenger fares are set to erode further this year as it grapples with unions over a restructuring of European operations aimed at stemming the flow of customers to discount rivals. The shares fell as much as 7.1% yesterday.

Lufthansa’s supervisory board is to meet on April 27 to discuss buying the 55% of Brussels Airlines which it does not yet own, German newspaper Sueddeutsche Zeitung reported yesterday.
