A classic outcome for a classic one-design boat, celebrating the 65th anniversary of one of sailing’s best known trophies, was completed off the Old Head of Kinsale yesterday when Germany’s Tommy Mueller discovered he had won the event overall in a remarkable comeback.

A finishing place anywhere inside the top 12 in today’s final race of the Brewin Dolphin Dragon Gold Cup should secure the 65-year old trophy for Britain’s Lawrie Smith, who is sailing for Glandore Harbour Sailing Club.

Germany’s Tommy Mueller extended his overall lead in the Brewin Dolphin Dragon Gold Cup at Kinsale yesterday as a third place for the day and upset amongst his nearest rivals set the stage for the second half of the series.

A GRAND total of 85 boats turned out for the opening race of the C.H. Marine Autumn League at the Royal Cork YC in Crosshaven where the skippers and crews just could not have had it any better.
