THE Eastern Unites States were hit with another day of bitter cold and blustery winds that made it feel as cold as 40 degrees below zero in some areas, making icing roads, airplanes and outdoor exposure deadly.

New York City woke up shivering this morning as temperatures across the north eastern United States plunged to record lows.
